Adaptation visit of children to the dentist

The adaptation visit to the dental surgery should be an interesting experience for the child and not associated with pain.

Caring for oral health is a process that begins in the earliest years of life. However, for many children, the first visit to the dentist can seem frightening. That's why, at our dental practice, we offer adaptation visits to help our youngest patients gradually get used to their new surroundings and dental procedures.

What is an adaptation visit?

An adaptation visit is a specially designed appointment for children who have never been to the dentist before or have a fear of the dentist. The aim of this visit is to familiarise the child with the dental surgery and the staff, and to create positive associations with the dentist.

What does an adaptation visit look like?

During the adaptation visit, the most important goal is to have a positive experience for the child. At the beginning of the appointment, the office staff introduces the child to the office environment by showing the various tools and equipment in a friendly manner. This may include demonstrations of how the dental chair works or what a dental drill sounds like.

The dentist then performs a 'toy' check-up where the child has the chance to learn what to expect at future visits. This 'pretend' checkup may include things such as counting teeth or learning about the different stages of cleaning teeth.

Injuries to deciduous teeth

Injuries to deciduous teeth are a common problem in children, especially at pre-school age, when busyness and curiosity about the world around are conducive to accidents....

Why is an adaptation visit important?

A child's first experience with the dentist can have a long-lasting impact on their oral health. If the first visit is stressful, this can cause a fear of the dentist that persists into adulthood. Adaptive visits help prevent this by creating positive associations and teaching children that the dentist is a friend, not something to be feared.

Medical-Dent Polish Dentist in Birmingham is always ready to help your child feel as comfortable as possible during dental visits. Join us for an adaptation visit to start caring for a healthy smile from a young age. Let's take care of our children's healthy teeth together!

During the first visit, we can also carry out simple sealing and/or varnishing procedures. After each visit, children have the opportunity to choose a small gift for their bravery, encouraging them to visit the dental practice again.
