Teeth whitening with an LED lamp - what does it involve and how much does it cost?

Do you dream of a snow-white smile, do you use whitening toothpastes but they don't work? Don't want to use overlays or whitening strips? If so, teeth whitening with the use of LED lamp may be a great solution for you. You can find out exactly what it involves and how much it costs in the article below.

Tooth colour - you don't always have influence

The greatest impact on tooth colour has oral hygiene. And while many people remember to brush their teeth regularly, they unfortunately forget to floss. The same goes for dental appointments. Therefore, if you want a white and, more importantly, healthy smile, remember to make an appointment with your dentist at least once every six months.

Another factor influencing the colour teeth is diet. In both of these cases, you have an influence on the shade of your teeth, but this is not always the case. The fact that your teeth are more yellowish may be a consequence of genes, age or their natural shade.

But rest assured! Today, dentistry offers many ways to whiten teeth. One of them is teeth whitening with an LED lamp.

And if you want to find out more About other ways we recommend you our articles "Teeth whitening at home" and "The best way to whiten teeth - the Enlighten system!"

The patient is wearing large red safety glasses over her eyes and there is blue lamp light directly from the dentist performing the procedure on her teeth. You can also see the dentist's glove holding the dental tool close to the patient's mouth.

Teeth whitening with LED light

Teeth whitening with an LED lamp is a procedure that takes place in the dentist's office and lasts a maximum of 60 minutes. It is 100% safe, painless and, importantly, does not damage the enamel.

Before you undergo it, however, your dentist will have to remove any lingering tartar and plaque. Similarly, you will have to wait to whiten your teeth if you have cavities or decay. To change the colour of your teeth, these must be healthy. And if you are curious about what other contraindications there are to teeth whitening, we recommend our text with a similar title "Contraindications to teeth whitening".

Coming back - what is the procedure itself like?

At the very beginning, the dentist will protect the gums and mouth against possible irritation. Afterwards, a special whitening gel will be applied to the teeth, usually consisting of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Next, light emitted by an LED lamp will be directed at the teeth. This light activates the gel molecules, which speeds up the process of breaking down stains on the enamel surface and deeper in the dentin. As a result, the whitening effect is already visible after the first session.

Advantages of teeth whitening with a LED lamp

There are quite a few of them. Among the most important are:

Speed and effectiveness. Compared to other whitening methods such as strips or trays, the LED lamp treatment produces faster and more noticeable results. Often, a significant improvement in tooth colour can be seen after just one visit.

Safety. The treatment is carried out in the dental surgery, and the dentist has full control over its course. Modern LED lamps minimise the risk of overheating of teeth and gums.

Long-lasting effects. With proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, the whitening effects can last for many months or even years.

And what exactly do you need to do to maintain the effect of LED teeth whitening? You can read about this in our article "Recommendations after teeth whitening - what can and cannot be done?". We also recommend you our text "White diet after teeth whitening" .
