28,000 zlotys, or more than £5,500 - that's the amount one of our clients saw in her dental treatment plan in Poland. Do you think to yourself that this is impossible? And yet, the treatment, which was planned for 6 months, included, among other things. crowns, fillings and root canal treatment. To the above sum, the patient would still have to add the cost of flights to Poland. It may surprise you, but it turned out that the treatment in the UK was cheaper for her - but more on that at the end.
The patient's example is not an isolated case, which is why at our clinic we review Polish dental treatment plans and review with our clients whether it is cheaper and more convenient for them to have their teeth looked after in the UK.
But let's start at the beginning.
What is a dental treatment plan?
You have certainly experienced more than once the situation when, during a check-up or tartar removal, your dentist told you which other teeth needed root canal treatment, which ones had decayed and which ones needed to be removed. It used to be that when you left the dentist's surgery, you were handed a piece of paper with the date and time of your next appointment.
Today, more and more clinics are preparing a comprehensive dental treatment plan. This is carried out after the removal of plaque and tartar, so that a full assessment of the patient's dental condition is possible. And that is exactly what a dental treatment plan is.
More simply, what treatment should be given so that you can once again enjoy a beautiful and healthy smile.
What information do you find in a dental treatment plan?
Firstly, what teeth need treatment and what kind of treatment. It is possible that you are struggling with decay, or perhaps you already have an inflammation or are missing a crown on one of your teeth. Of course, during your consultation with your dentist, you may indicate that you are keen to replace missing teeth or want your teeth to be perfectly straight. In such situations, your dental treatment plan will include the following implants or braces.
The second important piece of information you will find in the treatment plan is the prices, i.e. how much each treatment costs and how long it will last. Finally, you will find out how much time you will have to spend to make your teeth healthy and beautiful again.
The Polish dental treatment plan versus the UK reality
Many people choose to visit the dentist when visiting family in Poland. More often than not, this decision is dictated by the prices in UK surgeries and, in some cases, this is correct. When? Firstly, if the person's teeth do not require long-term treatment and thus frequent trips to Poland. And secondly if they choose a dentist in a small town.
Nowadays, most clinics in large Polish cities have almost identical prices to Polish surgeries in the UK, or even higher. You don't have to take our word for it. We checked 12 clinics in Warsaw and the average price for root canal treatment is 510 zlotys, or about £100. Of course, some dentists offered lower prices, but there were also some who charged 1400 zlotys for root canal treatment under a microscope.
Going back to the calculation, to the aforementioned £100 you often have to add the x-ray and the flight to Poland. If root canal treatment requires several visits, it stops being worth it.

Dental treatment plan for £28,000
Returning to our patient and anticipating the question that will arise - the dental treatment plan was prepared by a reputable and recommended office in a major Polish city. Of course, there will be claims that she could have opted for another dentist. This is true, but it still would not have eliminated at least several trips to Poland in the next six months.
We did a new cost estimate in our office based on the Polish dental treatment plan. The amount - £1730, which is over £3,800 less. The patient also took advantage of the instalment system, making the final cost of her dental treatment just over £144 per month.
